O Me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring;
Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish;
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew’d;
Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me;
Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined;
The question (O me!) so sad, recurring:

Answer:
That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse.
Ó Eu! Ó Vida!
Ó eu! Ó vida!... das questões que sempre reaparecem;
Das legiões sem conta dos que não têm fé, das cidades repletas de tolos;
De mim próprio sempre a me censurar (pois, quem seria mais tolo que eu e quem teria menos fé?)
Dos olhos que inutilmente anseiam pela luz, das coisas ordinárias, do esforço sempre renovado;
Dos medíocres resultados de tudo, das multidões trôpegas e sórdidas que vejo no meu entorno;
Dos anos vazios e inúteis de todo o resto, eu integrado nesse resto;
Vem a questão (ó eu!) tão triste, recorrente:
Resposta:
O poderoso espetáculo vai continuar, e você pode
contribuir com um verso.
